Work Package 2
Perceptions and migrations decisions
WP2 documents the role of perceptions of (changing) environmental and socioeconomic factors, and how these influence migration aspirations and assessments of (un)inhabitability.
WP2 documents the role of perceptions of (changing) environmental and socioeconomic factors, and how these influence migration aspirations and assessments of (un)inhabitability.
WP2 will investigate how migration decisions are influenced by the perceptions of the impacts of climate change in both sending and receiving areas. By using qualitative and semi-quantitative techniques – including the Fuzzy Cognitive Mapping (FCM), one of HABITABLE’s primary research methods – WP2 will create a project-wide database on local population’s perceptions of an array of migration drivers, including environmental, social, economic and political conditions. This database will be used to identify several factors influencing migration decisions in the context of climate change. WP2 will also undertake a comparison of the perceived contribution of environmental factors in migration aspirations/decisions. The drivers and relationships between climate change and migrations aspirations/decisions identified in this work package will be quantified and used in the modelling to be undertaken in WP3.
HABITABLE aims to significantly advance our understanding of the current interlinkages between climate impacts and migration and displacement patterns, in order to better anticipate their future evolutions.
