Nikki Funke

Institutional Lead
WP4 and WP6
Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)

Nikki Funke (MA Political Science and studying towards a PhD in the Policy Sciences) specialises in the analysis of policy landscapes (including policies, political dynamics, science-policy interactions, institutional dynamics and stakeholders) and has done extensive work in this regard in both the water and environmental sectors in South Africa. Nikki has considerable experience in conducting literature reviews and employing qualitative research methods. With regard to the linkages between climate change, habitability and migration, Nikki recently led a three year research programme funded by the South African Water Research Commission and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research that investigated the impacts of environmental migration in Southern Africa. As part of the HABITABLE team, Nikki will deploy her expertise and skills primarily to contribute to the aims and objectives of WP6, focused on assessing and testing leading policy options and best practices with a focus on climate migration. Her contribution will pay particular attention to the African and South African contexts, thereby broadening and enriching the geographic and empirical scope of the project.

Work Package 4
