University of Vienna

Harald Sterly (Senior Scientist at the University of Vienna) is a human geographer who focuses on the spatial and social aspects of migration, environmental change and technology. For his PhD research at University of Cologne, Germany, he analyzed the interrelations of translocal social relations and mobile communication of rural-to-urban migrants in Bangladesh. In his research, he combines qualitative and quantitative methods. Previously, Harald has coordinated the TransRe research group at the University of Bonn, Germany, which focused on the linkages between migration, translocal connections and social resilience in Thailand. He has fieldwork experiences in Bangladesh, Thailand, Kenya, Somalia, and Guatemala. In HABITABLE, Harald will be involved in the conceptualization, and in the collection and analysis of data for WP5 (Migration Impacts).
