Dr. Bina Desai

Institutional Lead
WP1
Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC)

Bina leads IDMC’s programme work, including global monitoring and reporting, the organisation’s thematic research agenda, and data and risk analysis. She previously worked for the German Ministry for Development, the Aga Khan Development Network, Christian Aid/DFID, and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR). Bina holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, and MSc in Sociology and Economics, and has a strong background in climate and disaster risk reduction and development economics. She is fluent in German and English, speaks French and basic Hindi. 

In HABITABLE, Bina will provide oversight and guidance to the IDMC team, supporting the literature review for WP1 to facilitate the development of a conceptual model on tipping points and assisting in the work on displacement risk assessments under WP3.

Socio-Ecological Systems (SES), Climate Impacts and Tipping Points

HABITABLE aims to significantly advance our understanding of the current interlinkages between climate impacts and migration and displacement patterns, in order to better anticipate their future evolutions.
