Sapienza University is the biggest university in Europe, which mission is to contribute to the development of a knowledge society through research, excellence, quality education.
Within Sapienza University, the Department of Political Sciences has carried on several national and international research programs, particularly in the field of human rights and the protection of refugees and migrants, in cooperation with international organizations, ministries, NGOs.
The core activities are devoted to human rights issues, both from a theoretical and practical perspectives, covering cross-cutting areas such as the relationship between human rights, environment, migration, gender, disarmament, space activities and so on.
This perspective also informs educational activities. The Department has developed a well-known expertise in the field of protection of refugees and migrants, providing since 1992 a training course on the issue, organized in cooperation with UNHCR and NGOs. Since 2001, it offers a Master’s Course in International Protection of human rights. Moreover, a specific curriculum of the PhD program in Public, Comparative and International Law is devoted to legal research on human rights issues.
Within HABITABLE, Sapienza’s contribution will focus on the evaluation of legal and policy practices, with specific reference to a human rights-based approach to the protection of climate migrants.
HABITABLE aims to significantly advance our understanding of the current interlinkages between climate impacts and migration and displacement patterns, in order to better anticipate their future evolutions.
