The theme for the 2022 ISA annual meeting – “A wider discipline for a smaller world” – was focused on the need for, and value of, a wider, more inclusive discipline to understand the challenges of a smaller and more interconnected world.
In a smaller and more interconnected world, issues central to international studies often become more complex. Current challenges such as understanding the social consequences of COVID 19 and the policy responses to the pandemic, as well as climate change and its consequences clearly highlighted the need for a wider discipline of international studies. As a result, discussions emerged during a wide range of panels and conferences stressed the importance of fostering internationalization, wider participation and diversity, and interdisciplinarity and collaboration across traditional disciplinary boundaries, as those are key to ask nuanced questions and find the as nuanced answers.
HABITABLE aims to significantly advance our understanding of the current interlinkages between climate impacts and migration and displacement patterns, in order to better anticipate their future evolutions.
