In the scope of the HABITABLE project, CARE France organized a stakeholder online dialogue on March 21, 2024. In this first introductory part recorded during the event, an overview of the HABITABLE project is presented with an intervention/a series of intervention
by François Gemenne (executive director Hugo Observatory, Université de Liège and HABITABLE’s principal investigator), followed by the intervention of Mamadou Goïta (Executive Director, IRAP Institute for Research and Promotion of Development Alternatives, and President of the Board of PANiDMP Pan African Network in the Defense of Migrant’s Rights) presenting/showcasing the perspective of affected communities.
In this second part of the dialogue recorded during the meeting, HABITABLE preliminary findings are presented by Caroline Zickgraf (Deputy Director of the Hugo Observatory, Université de Liège, HABITABLE’s scientific coordinator), Gianfranco Nucera (Assistant Professor in Environmental Justice and Climate Change Law at Sapienza University) and Mumuni Abu (Senior Lecturer Regional Institute for Population Studies, University of Ghana) together with and recommendations, followed by a Q&A section.
This third and final part of the dialogue is dedicated to the participants’ reflections on the breakout rooms discussions held on the project in Ghana, Kenya, Mali and Ethiopia by various stakeholders, including Sam Mc Culloch-Jones of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in South Africa, Eshetu Gurmu of Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia, Jared Owuor of Samuel Hall in Kenya as well as Alte Solberg who is Head of Secretariat: Platform on Disaster Displacement (PDD).
HABITABLE aims to significantly advance our understanding of the current interlinkages between climate impacts and migration and displacement patterns, in order to better anticipate their future evolutions.
