Florian Debève (University of Liege – Hugo Observatory) and Fanny Petitbon (CARE France) were part of the official civil society delegation to the 14th Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD14) which took place in Geneva from January 23rd to 25th under the chairmanship of the French government. On this occasion, the HABITABLE project co-organized with Secours Catholique – Caritas France, Secours Islamique France, ANVITA, the Migration Youth and Children Platform (MYCP), the University of Liege – Hugo Observatory and CARE France, a side event on January 24th entitled “Climate Change, Human Rights and Mobility: A Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue for Inclusive, Sustainable and Human-Rights Based Solutions”. Florian Debève presented the preliminary research findings and how they could be used to inform climate change, migration and development policy-making processes.
This event focused on Climate and Mobility and on local/global multi-stakeholder partnerships for sustainable and inclusive solutions. To this end, the French organizations Anvita, CARE France, Secours Catholique-Caritas France and Secours Islamique France were mobilized alongside the HABITABLE research project, the Mayors and Youth Mechanisms (MYCP).
These exchanges have been nourished by the redefinition of the concept of habitability through the contribution of the HABITABLE project, which seeks to conceptualize the notion of social tipping points in a broader, interdisciplinary way.
HABITABLE aims to significantly advance our understanding of the current interlinkages between climate impacts and migration and displacement patterns, in order to better anticipate their future evolutions.
