The Hugo Observatory is seeking an outstanding candidate for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher to lead a key task of the ALBATROSS project.
About the task
Drawing from the data produced in the HABITABLE project, this task aims to assess how current and projected climate scenarios impact migration trends and urbanization patterns. This assessment will be conducted on a local regional basis, rather than on a global basis or for the whole African continent as it is usually the case (cf. Amakrane, et al. 2023). The results of this task will directly inform policies at the local level.
Specifically, this task will analyze how local migration trends and urbanization patterns in Sub-Saharan Africa respond to climate-related threats to livelihood and safety at the local regional basis, under both the current scenario and a set of future climate projections, as well as considering a series of alternative socio-economic scenarios (First report). The assessment will include the impacts that key sector adaptation measures shall have on urbanization and migration patterns. A range of potential adaptation options, particularly NBS, that could serve as an alternative to forced migration (Sakdapolrak et al., 2023) will be assessed through an agent-based models framework. For each one, a feasibility assessment will be conducted, as well as potential ways of implementation identified (Second report).
