The Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) is the world’s authoritative source of data and analysis on internal displacement. Since our establishment in 1998 as part of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), we have offered a rigorous, independent, and trusted service to the international community. Our work informs policy and operational decisions that improve the lives of millions of people living in internal displacement, or at risk of becoming displaced in the future.
Our mission is to generate evidence on all situations of internal displacement, strengthen capacity to prevent and respond to the issue, and galvanise action to drive positive change. We do this by: 1) monitoring and researching the phenomenon; 2) documenting solutions and best practice; 3) advising governments and providing tools and services to partners; and 4) promoting the issue through partnership, dialogue and communication.
Our contribution to HABITABLE will draw on our research on the scale, patterns, drivers and impacts of internal displacement associated with slow-onset environmental change and disasters, as well as our innovative tools – such as IDMC’s Global Disaster Displacement Risk Platform – to estimate future displacement risk under climate change.
HABITABLE aims to significantly advance our understanding of the current interlinkages between climate impacts and migration and displacement patterns, in order to better anticipate their future evolutions.
